There are many nice towns and cities to visit within an hour’s drive from Chambres d’Hôtes des Gens Heureux such as:

Montpellier

One of the few large cities in southern France without a Roman or Greek past. Called the “Paris of the South”, it breathes 1000 years of history. The historic city center has a medieval character. Here you will find countless shops and cozy restaurants. The most important place in the city is the Place de la Comédie, where the Opera Comédie is located. An other place of interest is the Tour des Pins, a remaining defense tower of the medieval walls. Also interesting is the Jardin des plantes de Montpellier. This is the oldest botanical garden in all of France. Montpellier is a versatile lively city, with many tourist attractions, rich in history and modern at the same time. Montpellier is about 10 km from the Mediterranean Sea.

Nimes is a charming city, world famous for the exceptional preservation of its Roman monuments. Nimes is referred to as the “Rome of France”. The city also houses interesting museums, such as the Carré d’Art, the museum of contemporary art, and the Musée du Vieux, dedicated to life in the city from the end of the Middle Ages. A visit to Les Jardins de la Fontaine is certainly worthwhile.
